My story

My name is Devon, and I’m the founder of Compulsive to Calm Yoga Therapy. More importantly, I’m someone who has been personally impacted by anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. For a long time, I felt helpless—like I would never be able to quiet my overactive mind or live a life not ruled by rituals and constant worry.

When I discovered yoga, it became a refuge. Through yoga, I learned techniques that helped release the physical tension I was holding and gently quiet my mind. With practices such as meditation, journaling, mindful movement, and studying yogic philosophy, I began to face my anxiety and make meaningful, lasting changes in my life.

I once couldn’t imagine a life not dominated by anxiety. Now that I know such a life is possible, I feel deeply called to help empower others to find the same freedom, peace, and sense of self.

Testimonials

"Working one-on-one with Devon completely changed my relationship with yoga and my anxiety. From the very beginning, she took the time to understand what I was dealing with and created a routine that felt truly personal. Each session felt calm, supportive, and intentional, and the practices she designed for me were tools I could actually use when my anxiety showed up in daily life. Her approach made me feel safe, grounded, and empowered in my own body. I noticed a real difference not just during our sessions, but in how I managed stress and anxiety overall. Devon has a rare ability to blend deep compassion with thoughtful, customized yoga, and I can’t recommend her enough to anyone looking for yoga that genuinely supports mental health."

"It was a pleasure working with Devon. I came to her in hopes of addressing my anxiety. She was patient and thorough while teaching, and I regularly use the skills that I’ve learned to help ground into my body. These tools have helped me greatly, not only with my anxiety but my overall mental well-being. I can’t recommend her enough!"

-Tiffany, Client

"I use to poo poo yoga but during COVID Dev offered to teach me yoga over Zoom and it was life changing! Dev brings her positive energy and teaches me the importance of mind/body connection and how to breathe! She saw me through the dark isolation of the COVID years in NYC, ended my hip pain, enabled me to walk down subway stairs without touching the railing and gave me tools to manage stress and become more positive. I am so grateful for my time with Dev and the bright light she brings to each session!"

Yoga therapy is a gentle, supportive complement to traditional medicine and talk therapy. It provides unique tools to calm the body, release physical tension, quiet obsessive thoughts and constant worry, and guide you toward self-discovery and a more joyful, balanced life.

Yoga therapy differs from talk therapy in that it uses yogic techniques to address conditions directly. Yoga therapy uses asana (physical poses), pranayama (breathwork), meditation, education and philosophy to address different conditions. The approach is based on the doshas and koshas—three core energies and five layers of consciousness that make up the human experience. Imbalances within these systems can contribute to different conditions, and they help guide which practices are most appropriate for each individual.

Everyone's journey to peace is different. Clients typically report improvements in symptoms after just one session but long term deep healing may take multiple sessions over the course of a few months.
